LOCAL AREA
Castle Leslie Estate is a charming rural destination for those searching for outdoor activities and adventures. During your stay, wander our 1,000 acres of undulating Irish countryside, filled with majestic woodlands and lakes. There are many attractions to see and many activities to avail of both on and off the Estate. Below are some sample itineraries of what you can do when visiting Castle Leslie Estate and the greater Monaghan area.
Couples 2 Day Itinerary
Day One
Enjoy a leisurely stroll through the woodlands of Castle Leslie Estate and discover the Gothic Lodge, Walled Garden originating from 1850, the Pinetum, St. Salvator’s Church and the Integrated Wetlands project.
Avail of a one hour hack around the Estate. Due to social distancing guidelines, regrettably, until further notice, we can only cater for intermediate to advanced riders. We hope to be in a position to welcome beginner riders back to Castle Leslie Equestrian Centre very soon.

Enjoy a romantic carriage ride around the Estate with a glass of bubbly. Sit back and be charmed by what awaits you on your personal tour of the most beautiful areas of the Estate. Our Stately horse and experienced driver make this jaunt a perfect way to enhance a visit to the Estate.
Day Two
Indulge in a relaxing spa treatment at The Victorian Treatment Rooms which will leave you feeling refreshed and revitalised.
Explore the picturesque village of Glaslough by downloading the Glaslough Village Heritage Trail App which is a free self-guided visitor experience, starting in the heart of Glaslough village at The Diamond, following a 2 kilometre trail around ten fascinating points of interest before ending the tour at Saint Salvator’s church in Castle Leslie Estate.
Experience a unique insight into the noble and ancient art of Falconry which offers a stimulating, unique, and memorable experience. The majestic, beautiful birds are captive bred both in Ireland and abroad. They include different species of falcons, hawks, owls, and the magnificent golden eagle.
Visit the newly refurbished Kavanagh Centre (Open end 2019) which tells the story of Inniskeen’s most famous son – the poet, Patrick Kavanagh using immersive and interactive techniques to inspire visitors. There are 6 key zones in the exhibition and these focus on different times/aspects of Kavanagh’s life.
Family 3 Day Itinerary
Day One
Enjoy a family fun morning of with Archery on the Estate. It won’t disappoint in the entertainment, satisfaction and fun that it offers. Archery is extremely competitive and will really get the family energized for the day ahead.
Visit Sam Moore’s Open Farm in Threemilehouse. It offers a little more than the usual cows, sheep and horses! It also has alpacas, a miniature horse, and pot belly pigs. Children can play and enjoy the toy machinery, while the adults can admire the variety of vintage farm machinery. The tour includes Sam’s old cottage, the Forge, nature walk, the fairy fort and fairy lane, indoor/outdoor picnic area, play area and a go kart track for the bigger kids. Suitable for Children of all ages.
After a fun filled day, on your way back to the Estate, drop into Glaslough Chocolates in the village and meet Trish, the owner who makes scrumptious artisan chocolates, handmade in small batches using Belgian chocolate, fresh local cream and butter. An absolutely delicious treat!
Day Two
Visit Inniskeen Pitch and Putt. This 18 hole Pitch & Putt Course is situated on the banks of the River Fane in a picturesque setting. Pitch and Putt clubs and balls available to rent.
Visit Rossmore Park, only 15 minutes from Castle Leslie Estate. Rossmore Forest Park boasts a new adventure play park which is suitable for children up to 12 years of age. There is a variety of play equipment in the park including swings, zip lines, climbing frames and see-saws and there are also opportunities for exploration. The play park contains natural play items which encourage initiative, creativity and self-confidence with log piles, willow tunnels, and bee hive huts all waiting to be explored.

Visit Monaghan Leisure Centre
Facilities include a 26 metre 6 lane swimming pool with a 50m water slide, Children’s splash pool with water features, steam room, modern sauna, and relaxing spa pool. A full range of swimming lessons is provided for both adults and children, as well as shallow and deep aqua aerobic classes.The fully equipped modern gymnasium includes two fitness studios to provide for a range of classes to suit everyone. In addition, the Centre has two treatment rooms which include a fully licenced sunbed and private physio and two full size floodlit tennis courts,
Relax after an action packed day with a family horse drawn carriage ride around the Estate.
Day Three
Pottery
Visit Busy Bee Ceramics in Glaslough Village. The very talented Brenda McGinn produces beautiful hand crafted and unique ceramics at her pottery studio. Brenda also loves to teach ceramics to all ages and a visit to her studio to ‘throw your own’ pot is an enjoyable and educational experience for all! When you create your pot on the Busy Bee potter’s wheel, Brenda will glaze and finish your personal creation in her kiln and post to you wherever you are. Children and adults alike love taking part – and getting a little mucky! You can also visit the Busy Bee showroom to view and purchase Brenda’s top class hand crafted products. The perfect gift and souvenir of your visit to Monaghan.
Bike Trails
Drumlin Trails offer a variety of interesting trails in the north of Monaghan and surrounding counties. Visitors can rent bikes which also include 10 top of the range e-bikes. These electric bikes give gentle assistance on some of the many drumlin hills in the area. Located at McQuaid’s Fuel Station between the villages of Glaslough & Emyvale.
